48th Avenue Upgrade – Cordova Street to Old Seward Highway

Project Management & Engineering, Project #06-26

The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) is planning roadway and drainage improvements on 48th Avenue and Cordova Street. The project area includes approximately a half mile of roadway on E. 48th Avenue from Old Seward Highway to Cordova Street and on Cordova Street from E. 48th Avenue to International Airport Road.

The asphalt surface and roadway subgrade is failing and it is no longer feasible to economically maintain the roads. The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the roads to meet current Municipal standards.

Improvements will include:

  • Roadway Reconstruction
  • Storm Drain Upgrades
  • Pedestrian Facilities
  • Street Lighting
  • Utility Reconstruction
  • Landscape Improvements

MOA has contracted with CRW Engineering Group, Inc. to provide engineering services.

The project is currently funded through the Design phase for 48th Avenue only, and the 48th Avenue section Design Phase has begun. In 2020, the Design Study Report was finalized and approved, and surveyors will be in the area during fall of 2021.

Construction of improvements to 48th Avenue are anticipated to occur in 2025 depending on funding availability. Design for Cordova Street will occur at a future date.
